Rain or strong wind cancels, Rain date is April 10, 2026.
On Thursday evening, April 9th, when the Van Halen experience 'Jump" will be performing in the Oneglia studio theatre, Zufar Bikbov will be painting a nocturne of the theatre's iconic marquee in all its glory. Zufar specializes in nocturnes. Its a great opportunity to paint near, observe, and learn from a legitimate master painter.
30+ years ago, this writer was privileged to paint with Curtis Hanson for 18 months.
I learned by watching Curt. He was a man of few words, but they were choice,
"Don't try to paint a thing. Just put the pieces of color where you see them."
Sadly Curt passed a few years ago, and I mourn the loss of the work he still would have created.

This is a 2 day affair and the schedule was decided deliberately to give painters really interesting light to paint. The property owner told me that this late April weekend will give us a good show of blooms generally. If the weather is good to us, we will have a morning and late afternoon 'golden hour' of slanting rays of light and shadows. April 25 @ 4:00 pm & April 26 @ 8:00 am.
Come for one or come for both. 66 Wigwam Rd., Litchfield, CT.

Stunning, amazing, beautiful. This Garden is a paradise and is one of the treasures you can find in Litchfield County. Garden 'rooms' contained by walls or hedges, cobbles, water features, ornamental garden objects, surrounding an 18th century farmhouse set in a serene landscape.
Hollister House Gardens are located in Washington, CT and are on National Register of Historic Places, and is a Designated Preservation Project of the Garden Conservancy.
Hollister House is opening especially for our painters on dates that they are not open to the public.
They generously gave us Thursday May 21, 2026 for a practice session.
Hollister House then gave us September 17, 2026 for our competition painters during PAL.

This Practice Session will be in June, specific date TBD.
Gardens, barns, porches, a bend of the Bantam River, nooks and crannies, more than enough subjects to thirst over. This space is located just outside the center of Litchfield.
Artists need to sign up and then receive the directions and parking instructions.

Winvian was on the list of places we really wanted to connect with, and this year we did.
It is a very exclusive, gated 'resort'; one has to speak into a microphone to be allowed on the property. Winvian has 18 boutique cottages, spanning 113 acres; a whimsical tree house, a helicopter suite, a log cabin, a library, an artist studio, and more.
The resort is offering us July 7, Tuesday, for a Practice Session there.
Paint for a few hours and then have some tasty treats and a cocktail at Maggie's Tavern on the patio. I know I will!

Arethusa Farm Foundation teaches agricultural education to children and adults, preparing people for the farm workplace. They honor the legacy of working farms in the northwest hills and across rural America. We are grateful for the permission to wander over these beautiful acres and memorialize one of our community's historic working farms.

This practice session was created after we saw how much the painters, who entered the Quick Paint last year, enjoyed the Meadow. An image instantly popped into the director's mind of
'Sunday in the Park With George', the classic post-impressionist painting by Georges Seurat, that became a Broadway play. We have adopted it and now it is our,'Sunday in the Park with Art'.
Images of families spreading out blankets and baskets loaded with picnics, while kids run around chasing each other flooded our senses.
This Community Picnic celebrates art, families, summer, the last hurrah before school starts again, and how glorious it is to live in this country when it is living up to its founding values.
This is what the artists will paint.
The Historical Society will make a variety of historic games available for families to play with too.
